October plant walks

It’s time to wrap up plant walk season with the last two (official) plant walks of the year! I’ve had so much fun getting to know new people and new plants, doing this monthly series of plant walks at Beaver Hollow and the monthly series of plant walks for Bayfield Presbyterian Church, which has brought us to different trails around Bayfield. I definitely want to do it again next year.

Things are slowing down along the boardwalk at Beaver Hollow, definitely sinking into ‘rest’ mode. There is still a lot to see in the wildflower garden, and the birds are very active in the marsh. The winterberry is at its peak, and cattails ‘corndogs’ have exploded into fluff back at the beaver pond. Register here to join us Saturday morning, 10/15 at 11 am at Beaver Hollow, 88850 Compton Road.

Sunday afternoon, we’ll hit up Salmo trail for beautiful fall berries and tree ID! Dress warm, as the lake breeze can be chilly. We’ll take the trail all the way out to the beach. There are some beautiful fall colors and fluffy seed heads along Salmo this week – it is one of my favorite spots year-round. Register here to join us Sunday afternoon, 10/16 at 1 pm at Salmo trail, across from the state fish hatchery on Highway 13.
